Is your laptop or desktop computer running slowly? Are you thinking of buying a new one? A new computer is going to set you back between $600-$800 or more and will force you into Windows 10. Computer Pc Medic, Computer Repair in Fort Collins can make your computer 3-5 times faster for less than 1/3 the price of a new computer.
Assuming your computer has at least 4 GB of memory, isn’t infected with viruses and isn’t in dire need of tune-up, I have a surefire way of turbocharging your slow performing computer. In fact, you will begin to love using your computer again. So, what is the secret? It’s a replacement for the mechanical hard drive with what is called a Solid State Drive or SSD. They have been around for years, but the prices and technology advances make this a good time to try one out.
What exactly is an SSD? Think of it as a large and very fast USB flash drive, but even faster. It is the same size as a laptop mechanical hard drive, is totally random access, with absolutely no moving parts. On the other hand, hard drives have been mechanical since their inception, with spinning platters, a moving arm which has a floating read and write head. The problem with moving parts is that they wear out, floating heads go bad or crash on the spinning platter. Plus they are very slow in comparison to even the cheapest SSD’s.
So what is the approximate cost? Depending on the manufacturer, the model and size (64GB to 1TB), you can expect to pay 4 times the price of a comparable sized hard drive. That’s the bad news. The good news is that most people use only a small part of their hard drive space. This means that we can install a smaller capacity SSD in your computer. Most people can comfortably live with an SSD of 240GB or 500GB. Oh yeah, the other advantage is that power consumption is less than a mechanical drive, which means your laptop battery life will last longer.
The bottom line is if we clone your hard drive to an SSD while the hard drive is still healthy, you will only pay for an SSD and a cloning fee. You won’t believe the speed.
